Our 2020 round up

It’s been quite a year for everyone and we’ll be delighted to see the back of it; although at the time of writing (22/12/2020), next year isn’t looking that great either. However, despite the global Covid-19 pandemic the construction industry, for the most-part, has been able to continue and has been an important part of the ongoing economic recovery in the UK.

There’s no telling what will happen in the next 6-12 months but if this last year is anything to go by, you might be spending more time at home than usual. So, it you are looking to create a little more space for you and your family, get in touch with us on 01628 826066 or email us and a member of our team can talk you through your options.

With people spending more time at home recently, it’s the perfect time to be getting on with projects. Builders and construction professionals are still able to work so don’t delay your project – get building.

Christmas Office Hours

We are closing the office at 3pm on Christmas Eve and will be reopening on Monday 4th January 2021.

Highs and lows

This year has been tumultuous to say the least, however, we have designed some really exciting projects which will be started in the new year. At the beginning of the year, we had finished an impressive project in Radlett – this already beautiful family home needed an extension to accommodate the growing family.

In March we were forced to close our offices in line with the Government restrictions but we continued working from home and did our best to keep business as usual. This meant that builders were able to continue working on residential construction projects as long as they kept to stringent safety measures to reduce the risk of spreading the virus.

There was some promising news regarding planning permission which stand to benefit homeowners, especially in the wake of the lock down which saw a huge surge in people looking to extend their homes. We were delighted to welcome a guest blog this year from one of our partners: Croft Structural Engineers who wrote a great article on the importance of temporary works design.

With so many people being stuck at home throughout 2020 we tried to look on the bright side of things; it really was the perfect time for many people to start up their own business or start to look at their goals in general. We found out that some incredible businesses had been founded in basements and garage conversions around the world – food for thought if nothing else. We also gave you some suggestions for great shows to watch on TV and streaming services – many of these are still relevant now, so make sure you catch up.

In November the news reported on a couple of townhouses in Chelsea collapsing and falsely claimed that it was a basement at its cause. This was quite a nice opportunity to ‘myth bust’ and counter all of the false articles and actually help people to understand that it wasn’t a basement collapse. Read the article – it’s interesting; what surprised us most was that it wasn’t just the tabloid and social media reporting this nonsense it was reputable sources with extremely lazy journalists. Twitter was fun for a few days after that!

So with 2020 ending, all that’s left to do is wish everyone a happy and healthy festive period and we look forward to hearing from you in 2021 when we can all get back to normality, hopefully.
