The Location

The basement project is in the small, picturesque village of Medmenham between Marlow and Henley-on-Thames in south-west Bucks. A village full of history and period architecture this village lays on the borders of Buckinghamshire and Berkshire, separated by the River Thames. It’s a beautiful spot and an extremely desirable place in which to live.

Our Project

The village boasts a number of listed buildings as you’d expect from a small village; one of our main challenges was designing this project to be sympathetic with existing architecture and the surrounding environment.

After a long, painstakingly detailed process we were able to obtain consent for the basement and the rebuild and enlargement of the existing annex. The house itself is a listed building and so great care had to be taken with the design concepts for this exciting project.

The basement itself is below the front garden area linking the main house to the new detached annex. The new space will include a large sitting room with glazed roof panels, a large games room and ancillary areas such as a shower room and utility.

We have been involved in the design, planning, construction, tender and will continue to be involved until completion. This shell was undertaken by our friends at Knowles Construction who completed the project on budget and ahead of schedule despite the Covid-19 pandemic. This is another project which has been complicated by the restrictions associated with the listed elements of the project, but with the help of our planning consultants Progress Planning we managed to get approval.

As phase one comes to an end, we are excited for the fit-out phase to start shortly. We can’t wait to see the final outcome.
